We won again!

We have won the Presidetial Award again in 2012, as Botswana's best theatre group, it now for the fourth time!!!!!

About Me

Moremogolo Extension Theatre Trust: Jwaneng, Southern District, Botswana; Moremogolo is a fourth time winner of the Annual Presidential Awards Winner. Moremogolo won this award in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012 as Botswana's best theatre organisation. Moremogolo is the only theatre group that has ever won this award in Botswana. Moremogolo uses theatre performances to raise awareness in the community regarding environment and natural conservation. Moremogolo is a high energy performance group using musical and dance theatre to enhance the performances. Moremogolo also uses the local languages to break language barrier in community and public education on alcohol and drug abuse, women and childern's rights, burns prevention, health issues and conservation

We believe in recognising people's potentials

Transfromation is not just an interllectual journey, it involves people's value systems, their myths, attitudes and traditions, and these can not be accessed without recognising of their arts forms and languages, that is why we use theatre to break the language barrier in environmental education and awareness within grassroots communities.

Awards won by Moremogolo Extension Theatre Trust

Following is a list of awards won by Moremogolo Extension Theatre Trust since its establishment in 1999 # Best Communiticator- Awarded for a unique form of communication, looking at its uniques style of diplaying a play. This was awared by Jwaneng Mine in 2001 # Botswana Best Youth Service Awards:- Moremogolo attained position 1 under perormance arts, it was awarded for its Youth Development Programme on the use of talents to address social ills and for livelihoods. This was awarded to Moremogolo Extension Theatre Trust in 2008 # Presidentail Award- Best theatre organisation. Won by Moremogolo after competing in an annual theatre competition. Moremogolo Extension Theatre Trust won this award in 2008, 2009 and 2010, being the only theatre group ever awarded this Award.

Our Projects Startegy

Our Projects are carried out under the following characteristics

1. Comminity Perticipation

These are community projects; they strive on participation of all stakeholders. All stakeholders input is important for the smooth running of the projects, their input is relevant as they shall help in the monitoring and evaluation of the project. There are consultation meetings with the community gatekeepers of all villages involved in the projects. The purpose of the meetings are mobilize community gate keepers so as to have their meaningful participation in their project. The Village Development Committees (VDCs) are very important to these projects because they serve as parliament to their local communities, they are policy implementers at community level, if properly educated they can help their community to set up Community Based Conseravtion Clubs)

2. Capacity Building

Theatre skills workshops are run to empower the youth of the targeted areas with the appropriate technical capabilities. Participants in these workshops also empoweres them with acting, dance and music skills to incorporate in their future theatre productions. The workshops also provide an opportunity to give the participants updated in formation on issues of conservation.

3. Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

The youth artists taking part in this project are helped to sustain themselves even after the completion of the project. They are paid honoraria prizes at the end of the projects which they can invest into a business that will take them away from damaging the environment.

4. Gender Focus

Environmental Conservation is a cross gender concern, therefore males and females are encouraged to participate equally in this project.
